They may not have the Disney-style cuteness of a bunny with big ears but these sweet little milk-chocolate echidnas filled with a caramel ganache will appeal to anyone who has pulled their car off the road in delight to watch an echidna wobble its way across the highway. Meryl Watters makes her chocolates to order from her farm in Laanecoorie, west of Bendigo, a side business to making award-winning extra virgin olive oil, some of which is also used in her creamy ganaches. Using only Belgian chocolate, the range also includes turtles, pralines, love hearts and a sensational rocky road. Available only by mail order, the chocolates are packed in thermal bags so they arrive safely.
Echidnas are $24 for a box of 12, or $38.50 for a box of 24. See nuggettycreekolives.com.au
